BRIEF

The disconnection between studying graphic design and working in the field. A lot of new graphic design graduates have a hard time transitioning from student life to work life in graphic design field. What you are taught in school compared to what you do as a graphic designer in work environment is different. This disconnection between the educational years and work years make it hard to transition for newly graduates. It takes time to get used to the differences that they face after starting to work.

RESEARCH

I have conducted 2 different questionnaires. One for senior graphic design students, one for graduated graphic designers. On top of the surveys I have interviewed up to 20 graduates to get their opinions. 53,8% of graduates had a hard time transitioning to work life. 92,3% of graduates think there is a difference between what you are taught in school and how it works in work life. 92,3% of graduates think informing senior students about how is it like working will help them transition easier. 66,6% of senior graphic design students are anxious about not being able to transition as they imagine it to be and they are looking for ways to get information. 94,4% of senior graphic design students wants to learn about the disconnection through both readings and exercises together.

FUNCTION

: I am using application as the medium for my project. This medium will reach to the target audience more effective. Graphic designers between 20-28 years old are highly attentive and familiar with technological tools and social media platforms. This application will act as a media platform and an edutainment product. Learning, doing exercises to practice while also connecting with other designers through sharing your exercises and being inspired by other users.

CONCEPT

I have decided to use mobile application as a medium to reach out to my target audience because graphic designers between 20-28 years old are highly attentive and familiar with technological tools. In the application there are reading, examples and exercises parts. In reading part, users will be informed about the address category topics. Learning about how that topic is different in school vs. work. In exercises users will be given different exercises to complete to practice about the said category. Users will be able to share their exercises. And these posts can be liked and commented by other users, including VIP users. VIP users are well known graphic designers. They are also able to like and comment on posts. Posts that has the most likes on every month will get a chance to contact the VIP users. Overall it will be a fun but also educational application for newly graduating graphic designers. Helping them to have an easier transitioning to work life.
