Turkish kilims are carrying valuable traditional messages from the depths of history to the present. It is important to create a distinct design language for kilims to raise interest. In this way, creating a typeface that reflects the characteristics of kilims can bring different design point of view.

Sketches, Process, Progress

I started to examine the compositions, symbols and motifs of the Anatolian kilims. After my research, I created a base typeface by transforming the Roboto Slab Serif Regular into more geometric letters. My base typeface provided the most flexibility while designing the Anadolu typeface. I tried various design approaches. I aimed to reduce the decorative aspects of my letters to be legible. I paid attention to keeping the characteristics of the kilim compositions while reducing the decorative elements. VIEW THE MOODBOARD

FUNCTION

The Typeface Usage and Target Audience

The Anadolu typeface is targeted toward young people to raise interest and show that kilims can be interpreted in modern design language. Anadolu typeface is downloadable and usable with the help of the font design software named ‘’Glyphs’’.

CONCEPT

The Anadolu Typeface

It is a slab-serif display typeface and can be used in headings and subheadings. The typeface contains the characteristic features of Turkish kilims such as having integrated compositions that are geometric, have low contrast, and consist of diagonal and horizontal lines.

The Anadolu typeface can reflect characteristics of kilims from a design point of view. It brings a different perspective towards Anatolian kilims. Anadolu typeface can create a bridge between modern & traditional.
